To start with Ms Fisher is taking the whole class for drama workshops. Our first workshop was about helping understand more about acting and being an actor. Our first challenge was to freeze in different was while making ourselves as big as possible. We also had to create a 'gateway' with our body that another person could crawl through. We then put these actions together to play a game that is similar to Stuck in the Mud. The purpose of the game was to teach us about being generous to our fellow actors when we are on stage as well as learning that our actions often have to be BIG.
Our next challenge was to run around the Parish hall 'soundlessly'. Now that is a real challenge for some of us. Not only were we not allowed to talk, we had to run on the balls of our feet. This was to teach us to be light on our feet. We were much better the second time around.
The last part of the workshop involved us stretching, shaking and swinging our bodies in all sorts of directions. This warmed us up to start 'acting', doing things like bouncing a ball even though we didn't actually have a ball. This is a really important skill in pantomime. Once we had mastered a particular action we moved onto another. We did this until we could change actions without making too much fuss. We were pretty good at this.
