Turangawaewae - Immersion

On the first Friday back at school, Kauri Whanau organised an immersion activity for the whole school. A HUGE map of the world was drawn on the courts on Thursday afternoon.  Each student had prepared a footstep that was labeled with our name and the country that we most associate with.  On Friday, we met on the courts in whanau groups, armed with our footprints and wearing sashes in our whanau colours.  Mrs Gunson then organised the whole school onto the map and Mr Hacker took photos of the whole process.  Then the whole school paraded around the 'world' (aka the courts) to finally gather on New Zealand.  This activity was designed to get us to think about the place we feel is our turangawaewae.
The map of the world.

All the countries our students are connected too.

New Zealand containing the whole school.

Parading around the world!
