Ripening Fruit

Coco brought two very green and hard kiwifruit and an apple. She pricked the apple and left it with the kiwi fruit to ripen.

So what’s happening?

Fruit produce a hormone called ethylene which helps fruit to ripen. Damaged fruit release the hormone into the air which speeds up the ripening process in other fruit near it.
