Immersion - Matariki Macarena

Out of this World - Matariki Celebration

The whole school got together in whanau groups to celebrate Matariki.   Kowhai whanau had four groups.  In Ruma 18, Mrs Douglas showed us how to make “God’s Eyes’; in Ruma 19, Miss Smith’s group created a beautiful korowai; in Ruma 21, Mrs Hall’s group learned how to weave and made kete and in Ruma 20, we made headbands and played mahi whai or string games.  We learned how to make the 2 and 4 of diamonds.

The next day every whanau showed off their mahi with a parade and a kanikani.  As part of our immersion week, the whole school learned the Matariki Macarena.   If you want to learn it click here.
