Movement Immersion

During immersion week we took part in activities to help us hook into our concept of MOVEMENT.

Each lunch time, a different whanau led Jump Jam sessions.

On Wednesday every whanau rotated around classes to take part in different activities related to the concept.  In Kowhai Whanau, we made domino runs in Room 18, did some BP challenge activities called Curvi Fly and Surveillance, danced in Room 20 and made paper helicopters in Room 21.  Not only was this fun, but it was a great time for our tukana and teina to work together.

During the week, in Room 20, we made Marble racers and brainstormed ideas about movement using the Thinkers Alphabet key.  We also watched some video clips showing how technology has been developed from nature e.g. exoskeleton technology to help a paraplegic man walk independently.

On Friday, we had WHEELS DAY.  We brought our bikes, scooters, roller skates, drift bikes and skate boards.  Each whanau had a time during the day to go out and 'move' around the school.  We were able to use our new cycle track which was constructed in the school holiday.

We (the whole school1) all parked our gear in special 'bays'
that Mr Hacker made for us.  It certainly help us find our bike or
scooter when we needed it!

Mr Hacker bought two bikes to school to show us.  One was a mountain bike and the other was a road bike.  Mr Hacker showed us the different technologies in both bikes.  Because each bike had different purposes there were a lot of differences - tyres, what the frames were made of, the number of gears, the seats, etc.  We brought in some of our own bikes and compared them to Mr Hacker's.  The first thing we noticed was how heavy our bikes were
