Finally we arrived at the fishing village. We got to look around and go into the little house. In there was some soft dried plants that the Maori slept on. There was a dog bowl with water in it inside as well. Next to whare was a small garden with puha in it. I thought it was a weed but Maori eat it boiled. Some of the kids ate it raw, yuk! There was also a cooking shelter with wood all ready to burn and cook on. Only the woman would use this for cooking. There was also a small house on a high pole to keep kumara and other foods safe from pests like rats. After the men caught the fish they would hang up the fish on a fishing rack made of branches to dry.
