Most of us showed through our work that we knew what formal units of measurement we use (mm, cm, m & km) and that we could also use informal units such as our feet, hands, and stride.  Mrs Hepi wants us to be able to getting really good at estimating what we think before we actually measure something.  To do this we need to know what the formal units actually look like so we can make intelligent and logical estimates.  To do this we will be developing a set of benchmarks, e.g. a large step or stride could be about a metre; the length of between someone's elbow and fingertips could be about half a metre.
