Baba Didi and The Godwits Fly by Nicola Muir

This book is a story about the migration of the godwits which nest at Bream Head (among a few other places in New Zealand).  It makes connections to both the Maori and Croatian people who left their homes to come New Zealand.  The story tells of the courage, resilience and determination of the birds and the people to get to their destinations.  The story is told by a grandmother passing her personal story onto her daughter along with the important story of this amazing bird, known as the kuaka (Maori) or bar-tailed godwit.

Nicola Muir's daughter, Maya, used to attend our school and we know she is really proud of her mum and this book.
