Motivation for Writing

We are working on some different types of writing about autumn.  To get our minds working and to have some fun at the same time we went out and had a great time playing with the autumn leaves that a spread all over the playground.  We gathered the leaves into a big pile, taking note of the different colours and sounds.  We saw leaves detaching from the tree and floating gently down to earth.  Once our pile was big enough we had lots of fun falling and jumping into it.  Once everyone had a turn we 'put' the leaves back where we found them.  Well, we just got into the pile and tossed the leaves up so the wind took them all over the place.  Great fun!  When we got back to class we have to develop a 'bank' of words and phrases that will help us when we write.  We also looked closely at some leaves that we have collected to help us get ideas.  The next step will be to use a thesaurus to improve the richness of the words we have thought of.  For example - fall could be float or drift.  We have already written a short poem with Mrs Ross.
